All the Scream 7 news so far, including its new director

Ghostface has returned for yet another killing spree in Scream 6, and this time, he’s in the Big Apple. In the latest installment, the multi-identity masked killer returned to stalk the four survivors of Scream 5. Scream 6 opened to the best weekend box office of the series so far, cresting $44 million in its first few days.

With success like that, it’s no surprise that a new entry in the series is on the way. We don’t know much about Scream 7 but we know it’s happening, and involves a few creative change ups from the previous entries, including a new director. While you’re waiting, here’s where to watch every movie in the Scream franchise.

Will there be a Scream 7?

Yes, and it’s going to have a new director: Christopher Landon. Landon is no stranger to the horror-comedy genre, previously directing both of the fantastic and fun Happy Death Day movies, as well as the equally fun, and especially mean, Freaky. More recently, Landon wrote and directed the hit Netflix movie We Have a Ghost, which starred David Harbour.

When will Scream 7 release?

It might be a while. Landon was only announced as the director of the movie in August, directly in the middle of the writer and actor strikes. With that in mind, it’s likely the movie won’t be written for a while and shooting won’t start until after that. With all that in mind, it’s possible we could get the movie by 2025, but even that would be pretty quick.

Is the Radio Silence team leaving the series?

The directors behind the last two Scream movies, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, will both move to executive producer roles for Scream 7, along with another member of their Radio Silence film making group, Chad Villella.

Will Jenna Ortega be in Scream 7?

Probably! Given that she survives the onslaught of killers in Scream 7, and that she’s the biggest star in the series at the moment, it seems pretty likely that Jenna Ortega will return for Scream 7.

Who else will be in Scream 7?

While the plans seems to have been to bring back the “Core Four” (Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, and Mason Gooding) for the new installment, that’s no longer happening. On Nov. 21, Variety revealed that Barrera was removed from the movie for posting comments on social media that the studio, Spyglass Entertainment, deemed to be hate speech. Landon also offered a statement of his own in a now deleted tweet on X, formerly known as Twitter, which read: “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.”

As for the rest of the cast, we still don’t know much at all. Courtney Cox’s reporter character, Gale Weathers, survived Scream 6, which means she could be back for another entry in the franchise. Meanwhile, Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott, the star of the franchise, skipped out on Scream 6 due to apparent contract disagreements, but it’s possible she could return in the future as well.
